Here are your Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• UniWatch’s piece on NHL red lines should be your must-read of the day. [UniWatch]

• Kudos to TSN for their fan poll on the best goalie mask in the NHL, in which they selected one keeper from each team, put’em in a spiffy gallery and let the fans figure out which one has the best lid. Craig Anderson’s(notes) abominable snowman for the Colorado Avalanche is solid, as it Ray Emery’s(notes) homage to boxing with the Philadelphia Flyers. Dark horse: Stephen Valiquette’s(notes) Spider-Man mask is full of win. [TSN, thanks to Puck Buddy DHS]

• Retiring the number of goalie Chris Osgood(notes) should be a "no-brainer" for the Detroit Red Wings. Obviously, it’s up to the Wings and their fans, but as an outsider …well, how many recent Cup winners go up with him if Osgood is deemed worth of joining Sawchuk, Lindsay, Gordie, Delvecchio, Abel and Yzerman? [Greg Eno, via A2Y]

• Has Ilya Kovalchuk(notes) been offered a contract from the KHL? "You never say never, but you have to consider the team you play for. I never received any offers from SKA. So all of these rumors were false." [Birdwatchers Anonymous]

• William Houston gets the inside story on why CBC Sports dumped Al Strachan from HNIC: Apparently, they don’t take too kindly to having the brand advertised on the front of a book called "Why The Leafs Suck." [Truth & Rumours]

• Ken Campbell is calling for Slava Kozlov(notes) to be suspended for his hit on Scott Gomez(notes) of the Montreal Canadiens last night. [THN]

• Ah, the subtle differences in media coverage: On the day the Ottawa Sun asks its readers for their best Ottawa Senators player nicknames, the Toronto Star asks its readers for jokes about how much the Toronto Maple Leafs stink. Our favorite Leafs joke: Damien Cox picking them for the postseason. Woot! [Star, via Puck Buddy Wayne]

• It’s better for the Colorado Avalanche to be lucky than be good. OK, they’ve also been good, but they’ve also had some luck, though perhaps not as much luck as good when one considers … just read the damn blog. [Jibblescribbits]

• The Red Wings, meanwhile, don’t rebuild: THE RELOAD. [Snapshots]

• Why former Philadelphia Flyers keeper Robert Esche(notes) is in the mix for a goaltending job with Team USA. [LeBrun]

• Brilliant satire by Melt Your Face Off regarding the Nashville Predators‘ awful power play: "‘Amnesty InterNASHional,’ whereby all penalties committed by the Preds’ opponents would no longer require a trip to the penalty box." [MYFO]

• Stay Classy has other suggested practice games in the aftermath of the Lightning’s "naked shootout." For example: "I have it on good authority that the Detroit Red Wings have been trying utilizing a team game of Red Rover. The only problem is that some of their players have heard the KHL call them over, and they took it too literally.  I’m looking at you, Jiri Hudler(notes)." [Stay Classy]

• The wait for Jarome Iginla’s(notes) scoring slump to end is, in fact, at an end. [Herald]

Marian Gaborik(notes) Injury Pool Update: He missed New York Rangers practice today, but only because he and Ryan Callahan(notes) are sick. [@stevezipay]

• Also sick: Alexander Semin(notes), who may miss the Washington Capitals game against the Atlanta Thrashers. With H1N1, the NHL may need to make coughing on an opponent a roughing minor. [Capitals Insider]

• As Hockey Fights Cancer merch goes, these T-shirts are pretty bitchin’. Especially for the pink-o-phobes out there. [Shop NHL]

• Interesting note from Dmitry on Twitter: "Russian national team coach Zakharkin told SovSport that there will be only two lines from the NHL on the team in Vancouver. The rest – KHL." At first, this seemed like pretty significant news … until you take a gander at the Russian Olympic camp invite list and realize that it may only affect Evgeny Artyukhin(notes) and Nikolai Kulemin(notes).

Sidney Crosby(notes) creeps into the top 10 in career scoring for the Pittsburgh Penguins. [Pensburgh]

• Comparing a Pearl Jam concert with attending a show by what we once called "the Pearl Jam of sports," the National Hockey League. [View From The Cheap Seats]

• BD Gallof gets into it with an unnamed Newsday writer who wasn’t happy with the criticism his paper received regarding its New York Islanders Lighthouse Project coverage. [Hockey Independent]

• For Puck Daddy fans and Patrick Division nostalgia addicts: Had a really nice time on Blueshirt Banter Radio last night talking about great rivalries and the tragic loss of the ‘1940′ chant in 1994. [Blueshirt Banter]

• Why it’s about time Mikko Koivu(notes) got the nod as captain for the Minnesota Wild. [THN]

• Congrats to a solid citizen in Don Lever for landing the head coaching gig with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. They also named Ron Wilson assistant coach. Seriously. [Wolves]

• Finally, NPR covered the Phoenix Coyotes and the story is the kind of big picture, nuts-and-bolts overview of their plight that was missing all summer in the U.S. sports media.
