Phelps wearing walking boot on right ankle

BALTIMORE (AP) — Olympic swimming star Michael Phelps is wearing a walking boot on the right ankle he injured in a car accident a little more than a week ago. The black boot covers the 14-time gold medalist’s right foot entirely and goes almost all the way up to his knee. Phelps was driving with an invalid, out-of-state license Aug. 13 when another driver ran a red light, causing the accident, according to Baltimore police. Speaking at an event Saturday to promote his appearance on Shaquille O’Neal’s reality TV show, Shaq VS, Phelps said he has been training in the pool despite the hurt ankle. Says Phelps: “I’ve been in the water this week. Everything is precautionary. Nothing major. I can still train and everything.” Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
