First off, credit where it’s due: The Philadelphia Flyers unveiled their 2010 Winter Classic jerseys today at Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, N.J., by having Danny Briere(notes), Ian Laperriere(notes) and Braydon Coburn(notes) fire pucks at a block of ice containing the jersey until it shattered.

That. Is. Awesome.

Pretty much the only way you can make that cooler is by borrowing Al MacInnis from the Blues and having him do it with one slapper from the blue line.

The Flyers will wear these "retro" jersey when they take on the Boston Bruins at Fenway Park on Jan. 1. (Without the blue jeans, we assume.) As John McGourty of NHL.com writes:

A check of old Flyers’ uniform photos revealed the sweater is very similar to the original Flyers’ sweater — right down to the name plate, rather than individually sewn letters, that once adorned Flyers’ uniforms. One major difference is the Flyers’ never used the black nameplate seen on the new sweater.

No, they didn’t, and we imagine many of the gripes about this jersey will center on that nameplate. We didn’t like the white ones on the orange third jerseys from last season, and we’re not exactly digging the black ones here. Sure, they’ll pop for the NBC cameras; but it looks like an old Gary Dornhoefer fan was too cheap to buy a new Simon Gagne(notes) jersey, so he just ironed on a black patch.

Eh, maybe if they were orange we’d feel differently. The 700 Level, Flyers Goal Scored By … and Philabright have more on the new duds. So what say you:
