Jason Kay is the editor-in-chief of The Hockey News; maybe you’ve heard of it?

He writes a provocative blog on the THN Web site that’s covered issues like the Phoenix Coyotes‘ potential relocation and the NHL’s TV contract with NBC. He also hates the charity point in overtime, which puts him somewhere between the Taco Bell value menu and Scarlett Johansson being in the next "Iron Man" movie on our Awesome-O-Meter.

Editor that he is, Kay’s list is straight and to the point. So here are 5 Reasons Jason Kay of The Hockey News Loves Hockey:

1. It’s inherited.

KAY: My dad, as an immigrant to Canada from the United Kingdom in the 1960s, fell in love with the game. I was born into it, raised on it and, really, had little choice but to embrace it. It was in my blood.

2. My first NHL game.

Toronto vs. California Golden Seals in December of 1972 at the old Maple Leaf Gardens. I was six and totally awe struck by the arena and speed of the game. And when the home team scored and the crowd roared and the red light flashed, it left an indelible impression. It made me want to keep coming back.

3. The Stanley Cup playoffs.

The best and most daunting challenge in professional team sports.

4. Sudden death overtime.

Are you kidding me? The roller-coaster rides and adrenaline rushes are thrilling and exhausting; the spectre of marathon games fascinating.

5. It’s my job.
