Falcons’ Mike Smith fined for role in scrum; no fine for DeAngelo Hall
November 13, 2009
Two people familiar with the situation said Smith’s fine was for $15,000.
“I want everyone to know I’ve moved on from it,” Smith said. “I moved on from it back on Sunday night when that play was over. I’m ready to get prepared for the Carolina Panthers.”
The people spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the league has not officially commented on the situation. The NFL also fined Redskins safety LaRon Landry (FSY) $7,500, Washington defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (FSY) $5,000 and Falcons director of athletic performance Jeff Fish $2,500. Hall was not fined.
The trouble started in Sunday’s game after Landry delivered a late hit on quarterback Matt Ryan (FSY) along the Atlanta sideline. Hall jumped into the middle of things and was quickly surrounded by opposing players, along with Smith and Fish. Hall joined the Redskins last season after playing in Atlanta from 2004-07. He has been critical of his former team.
