1. Josh Hamilton didn’t flinch when Deadspin posted those photos of him last Saturday morning, conducting an open and honest press conference on his ongoing struggle with addiction.
He hasn’t flinched on the field, either, going 11-for-20 with five doubles, four RBIs and four runs in the five games since. Think Rangers fans are happy to see those escalating numbers as the Red Sox come to town this weekend leading the AL wild card by a mere half-game? [USA Today]
2. Here’s a great addendum to DB’s Morning Juice, a post that details exactly just how fast fast Justin Verlander was hurling in Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon. [Detroit4Lyfe]
3. Shaq took on Albert Pujols in that made-for-TV home run derby on Thursday night, but spectators in St. Louis1 weren’t allowed to tote cameras or cell phones to document the proceedings. Instead, you’ll just have to settle for this on-the-scene account from one of our favorite Cardinals fans. [Cards Diaspora]
4. Hey Tony La Russa, don’t want to field phone calls when holding a press conference? Yeah, there’s an app voice mail for that. [The Big Picture]
5. The Bossman goes through a list of six things he’d like to see his Nationals do. For some reason, all six things do not read "Sign Stephen Strasburg." [Mister Irrelevant]
6. The Blue Jays’ No. 1 need in the offseason? Better owners. [Sporting Madness]
7. Each time there’s a testicle injury in baseball — and it happens more often than you would think — I’m inundated with questions on whether or not I’m going to write about it or pull of a few jokes. Each time, my response is the same: "There’s just some thing you don’t joke or blog about it." Which is to say, Adrian Beltre, we’re with you, brother. [Seattle Times]
8. Jake Peavy looked more than alright in his first rehab start. [MLB.com]
9. That Joe Beimel superfan everyone used to enjoy linking to? Looks like
he might again be in trouble, this time due to his conduct at his son’s
football practice. [Busted Coverage]
10. The most horrific hip bumber? Try Nyjer Morgan. [Pirates Property]
11. Is Jeff Francoeur’s recent "change of scenery" in New York due to an improvement or is it just a hot streak? [Amazin' Avenue]
12. Gregg Zaun wants to be baseball’s oldest catcher. [St. Pete Times]
