Except for the L.A. Looks gel in his hair, Chase Utley(notes) finishes second to Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson on style points.
When it comes to substance in the World Series, though, Utley is right there with Mr. October.
Utley tied Jackson’s record for most home runs in a World Series when he connected against Yankees’ left-hander Phil Coke(notes) in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 5, helping the Phillies to an 8-6 victory.
It was Utley’s second homer of the night; he also hit a three-run shot against A.J. Burnett(notes) to help the Phillies extend their lead in a win-or-else situation; they trail the Yankees three games to two heading back to New York on Wednesday.
Jackson set the mark in the 1977 World Series, famously hitting three homers in the Game 6 clincher against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium. The performance went a long way in creating Jackson’s "Mr. October" nickname and persona.
