Calipari ‘disappointed’ by NCAA’s penalties on Memphis

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari says he’s disappointed by the NCAA’s decision to strip Memphis of its 2008 Final Four appearance for using an ineligible player. Calipari, who coached the Tigers to a 38-2 record during the 2007-08 season and was named head coach at Kentucky this spring, said in a statement he’ll support Memphis while it appeals the NCAA’s decision. Calipari said he’ll have no further comment pending the appeal, and is focused on coaching the Wildcats. The school released its 2009-10 schedule Thursday. Calipari was not implicated in the NCAA report. Kentucky president Lee Todd and athletic director Mitch Barnhart declined comment. Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
