Bernie Madoff’s hockey treasures can be yours at auction
November 14, 2009
Bernard Madoff, who is serving a 150-year sentence for defrauding investors of billions of dollars, has been called many things, as this bobblehead indicates.
As his personal items go up for auction this weekend in New York, we can probably add "puckhead" to the list of applicable labels; at least based on the massive collection of hockey memorabilia that’s on sale.
From Cardboard Connection, on the auction set for Saturday at the New York Sheraton Hotel and Towers:
Apparently Madoff was quite the hockey fan, because the majority of the 50-plus sports lots in the auction – which is being run by Gaston & Sheehan Auctioneers – are devoted to the stars of the NHL. There are numerous pieces of memorabilia autographed by Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky and game-used sticks from Tom Barrasso and other former Penguins. There are hockey cards of every kind, from rookie cards to autographed and game-used cards to full sets, featuring Gordie Howe, Alexander Ovechkin and practically every other notable star in-between.
That would include plenty of Sidney Crosby(notes) swag. Coming up, some of the items from Madoff’s personal collection of hockey treasures via the Gaston & Sheehan auction site.
Here are some of the hockey items, directly from the .pdf of the auction collection:

That’s a pretty impressive collection … although none of the hockey items come close to the personalized satin NY Mets jacket Big League Stew highlighted this week. Stylin’!
