Aubrey Huff is headed to a city he’s sure to love: Detroit
August 17, 2009

Today was supposed to be all about crazy Stephen Strasburg rumors and strange signing stories like the Tampa Bay Rays telling their top two draft picks to get lost.
But thanks to the Detroit Tigers‘ ongoing efforts to create some space between themselves and the rest of the AL Central, we have an actual trade to pass along.
As reported by Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports, the Tigers have acquired Aubrey Huff and his stat sheet of .253/.321/.405, 13 homers and 72 RBIs from the Orioles in exchange for minor league pitcher Brett Jacobsen. Huff will give the Tigers an always-valuable lefthanded bat and Detroit GM Dave Dombrowski says he likes the versatility Huff brings to the Jim Leyland’s lineups, though I’m a bit hesitant to pretend he’s Detroit’s version of Mark DeRosa.
Regardless, I think it’s a good move for the Tigers, who aren’t obligated to keep Huff past October. He’ll be a free agent after the season and if he appreciates the Motor City as much as he did Baltimore, a late fall divorce might be in everyone’s best interests.
Then again, if he powers Detroit into the playoffs and then takes on Joba Chamberlain as he has before, Motowners might just consider Huff one of their own. Stay tuned.
