Alex Smith really, really wanted that starting gig for the 49ers
August 27, 2009
This is from last Saturday’s Raiders vs. 49ers game, but it had escaped my
attention thus far. Watch 49ers quarterback Alex Smith lay a block on Raiders
defensive end Greg Ellis(notes).
Boom. And the respect meter for Alex Smith skyrockets. There may not be a ton
of quarterbacks in the league willing to take on Greg Ellis under any
circumstances, but to go high on him? In a preseason game? And lay him out like that? That takes some
grapefruits.
Shutdown Corner salutes Alex Smith in his losing, but game effort to win the
49ers starting job.
